Ward End House and Park

(photo Colin Hickman) Ward End House, or the Park House, was the home of the Marshall family, Ward End Bankers, during the 19^th century. George William Marshall, the genealogist, was born here in 1839, and sold the property to Frederick Gwyther, an electro-plate manufacturer in 1884. He died in 1891. His widow, Charlotte Elizabeth lived in the house until 1895, but she remarried a year later and became Mrs Jaehnichen. She sold the house and part of the land to Birmingham Corporation in 1903 and a year later it became Ward End Park.

The pool was dug by unemployed men in the winter of 1908-9.and a plaque stating this can be seen on the front of the house.
