ALTON DOUGLAS is probably best known as the
author of several best-selling books and for the three years he was
quizmaster (and co-writer), of the top-rated BBC Midlands TV series
"Know Your Place". However, he has also been a TV and radio
character actor, professional comedian, showbiz/jazz book and record
reviewer, TV and radio commercial voice-over artist, 5th Royal
Inniskilling Dragoon Guards trombonist, the voice behind several cartoons
and children's toys, etc. He has appeared in virtually every major theatre in the U.K. (including the London Palladium) and was responsible for hundreds of television warm-ups. His television appearances include "Know Your Place" (3 series), "Angels", "Seconds Out", "A Soft Touch", "Muck and-Brass", "The Golden Shot", "The Knockers", "The Original Alton Douglas", "Nights at the Swan", "Watch This Space", "The Barmaid's Arms", "Open University", "Property Rites", "Big Deal", "Newshound", "Murder of a Moderate Man" and "The Bretts". His radio plays include "Nr Peabody and the Beast", "Troupers", "The Family That Plays Together, Stays Together", "You Can't Judge a Book by Looking at the Cover", "Sorry Goodbye and Get Stuffed" and the award-winning "Guernica". He was also the archives and stills consultant for the centenary video "Made in Birmingham". |
